ALL MY CHILDREN’s Eva LaRue Opens up About How She Finally Healed From the Heartbreak of Her Divorce

Tags:

Actress Eva LaRue (Maria, ALL MY CHILDREN) opened up about the heartbreak of a career low and the end of her marriage and how it inspired her to change her preconceptions and emerge a better, stronger person. As a member of the Bahá’i Faith, LaRue spoke at a conference about her experiences in the hopes of inspiring others to learn from her mistakes and share what she had learned. “Not everyone is meant to stay in our lives,” she advised. “And the heartbreak from their leaving can end up being the ultimate opportunity for transformational healing.”

After leaving AMC in 2005, LaRue was cast on CSI: MIAMI as Detective Natalia Boa Vista, a recurring role that quickly became a series regular. But unfortunately, in 2012, the series was canceled, and in 2014, she divorced her husband Joe Cappucio after almost four years of marriage. “The long and the short of my story is that three years ago, my eight year run as an actress on CSI: MIAMI ended,” she confided, “and not long after, so did my marriage. I feel like heartbreak has a universality to it because everyone has or will go through it. And for me, it was an aching, crippling grief. And that panic-induced regret for the things I did do or didn’t do or should’ve done. And it left me feeling like a gutted shell of myself. Somebody I didn’t even recognize anymore.”

LaRue admitted that she never saw it coming, and allowed herself to wallow in blame and regret and all the other assorted emotions that come with that kind of heartbreak. Then she confessed that she had originally prayed for the outcome that she wanted before realizing that she had to let go instead. “It took me a while to realize that life is not about having my immediate wish list met,” she mused. “Because how would I change and grow and evolve?”

Although she allowed that it took a lot of work, LaRue revealed that she eventually had the breakthrough that led to positive change in her life. “Through that connection to God and my spirit, I was also able to find authentic joy,” she declared. “And that, in turn, connected me to renewed passion, new purpose, new work, and new love.”

You can watch LaRue’s entire presentation in the video below where she goes into more detail about her epiphany and how forgiveness played an integral role in changing her life for the better.
