Coby Ryan McLaughlin Opens up About Leaving GENERAL HOSPITAL

Tags:

It looks like Coby Ryan McLaughlin is leaving GENERAL HOSPITAL pretty soon as his run as the evil Shiloh comes to an end. But during an appearance on the podcast, You May Have Seen, the actor admitted that he has absolutely no regrets. “It was supposed to be a three-year deal,” McLaughlin said of his initial contract. “I can’t say anything because I don’t want to give away any spoilers.”

It’s typical in the industry for actors to be offered contracts for a soap that don’t end up lasting their full length, but McLaughlin insists he’s not upset that his run has been cut short and totally understands the reasoning. “I’m good,” he promised. “I’m so good. I had nine months. The character just got so diabolical. They had written him as so nasty.

“Finally, I got a call and they’re like, ‘Yeah, sorry, we’re not gonna re-up you,'” he added with a laugh. “I’m like, ‘You know what? I’m good. Thank you for the ride. This was fun.’ It’s really intense. It’s an intense process. I had a great time. I’m glad to have it on my resume. I’m glad to have done it. I’ve never done anything that’s challenged me as much or has intimidated me so much. You have to step up to the plate in such a way that… it makes me sweat. I’ve had anxiety attacks!”

Despite the intense pace of shooting a daytime drama like GH, McLaughlin said he had a lot of fun, especially when it came to meeting the loyal fans of the soap. “It’s rad. It’s awesome,” he enthused. “I get stopped in Target all the time. Being a single father that’s where I spend most of my time, in Target. So I get stopped all the time. I love it! I always said that one of the greatest parts about being an actor is the fact that we get to touch people on a level that we’ll never meet. And we get to elicit an emotion from those individuals. And not only do I get to do that, I get to meet those people!”
