Daytime Emmys 2020: The Changes You Need to Know About

Tags:

There are going to be some changes to the Daytime Emmy Awards in 2020. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has already announced that next year’s ceremony will be expanding from two nights to three spanning June 12-14, and they have just released a list of some further changes to the Daytime Emmys as they request this year’s submissions, some of which affect the Daytime Drama categories.

As previously reported, NATAS is combining the Outstanding Younger Actor and Outstanding Younger Actress categories into one called Outstanding Younger Performer. For the other, gendered categories, they encourage eligible performers to submit to the one they feel best fits their gender identity.

Some of the craft categories are now open to both Broadcast Dramas as well as Digital Dramas, including Outstanding Art Direction/Set Direction/Scenic Design, Outstanding Casting, Outstanding Costume Design, Outstanding Lighting Direction, Outstanding Multiple Camera Editing, and Outstanding Music Direction and Composition. The Outstanding Musical Performance in a Daytime Program has been eliminated.

Starting with this Daytime Emmys, the Outstanding Makeup, Costumes, and Hairstyling categories will now focus on “everyday” makeup, hair, and wardrobe. NATAS has added a new Outstanding Special Effects Costumes, Makeup and Hairstyling category which will award work in special events, Halloween, period looks, special effects, and prosthetics.
