Daytime Emmys 2018: Review All the Lead Actress Nominee Reels

Tags:

The Daytime Emmy Awards has finally released the official reels submitted in the Outstanding Lead Actress category, and picking a winner here is going to be tough! The scenes chosen by Eileen Davidson (Ashley, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS), Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis, GENERAL HOSPITAL), Marci Miller (Abigail, DAYS OF OUR LIVES), Maura West (Ava, GH), and Laura Wright (Carly, GH) are all tremendous!

Eileen Davidson (Ashley, Y&R)

Davidson begins her reel with Ashley angrily confronting Jack about the way he’s running the family business and reeling when he points out that she’s not really an Abbott. Next is an emotional conversation between the siblings as they discuss what to do with their ailing mother, followed by the dramatic scene where Ashley confronted Graham at the gala party. The final scene is Ashley begging Traci to support her in her battle against their brother.

Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis, GH)

Grahn’s reel opens with Alexis’ powerful confession as she attends an AA meeting and finally opens up about her drinking problem, followed by her struggling to stay sober as Julian pressures her to remember the night she thinks she killed a man. It wraps up with Alexis struggling with her feelings for Julian after they slept together again and calling it quits once and for all.

Marcie Miller (Abigail. DAYS)

Abigail’s multiple personality storyline didn’t start until 2018, but she still had strong material to pull from in 2017, starting with Abigail tearfully begging her mother to trust her decision to marry Dario, followed by her confronting Chad about his feelings for her versus Gabi. Then Miller included when Ben interrupted Chad and Abigail’s wedding where she envisioned confronting her tormenter, closing out the reel with Abi crying on Dario’s shoulder about divorcing Chad.

Maura West (Ava, GH)

The first half of West’s reel focuses on Carly and Sonny confronting Ava about what she did to Morgan. She initially tries to fight back and defend her actions, then succumbs to the guilt. Next is a series of scenes as Ava lies in her hospital bed suffering from her terrible burns and is confronted by Dante and Scott. And she finished up with the scene where Ava opened up to Griffin and was heartbroken when he resisted her kiss.

Laura Wright (Carly, GH)

Wright opens he reel with the angry scene where Carly confronts Sonny about not coming clean to her about Nelle blackmailing him sooner, followed by some motherly action as Carly scolds Josslyn about having a party in the house while she was away. Then she includes the scene where Sonny tries to convince Carly that Jason is really back from the dead, followed by all of the emotional scenes where she is finally reunited with her dear friend.

Choosing the right scenes for an Emmy reel is crucial to earning that nomination and hopefully the trophy. And with such incredible talent on display, it’s going to be difficult for the judges to pick that winner! Now that you’ve seen all the reels for yourself, do you think you can predict who they’ll choose? Make sure to tune in on Sunday, April 29, to watch the ceremony for yourself and see if you were right!
