GENERAL HOSPITAL Headwriter Shelly Altman Retires
The recent changes at GENERAL HOSPITAL aren’t just among the cast, but the crew, as headwriter Shelly Altman is retiring. TV Insider is reporting that her last day will be Friday, August 2. However, the transition to a new scribe should be relatively unnoticeable to viewers as the soap is promoting breakdown writer Dan O’Connor to take her place and work alongside Chris Van Etten as co-headwriter.
“These two understand the canvas and the characters,” GH executive producer Frank Valentini said to TV Insider of Van Etten and O’Connor. “They also bring creativity, passion, and commitment to the show’s history and future.”
Altman previously wrote for ANOTHER WORLD, ONE LIFE TO LIVE, and THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, earning two Daytime Emmy Awards and two Writers Guild of America Awards for her work. O’Connor also has a history writing for OLTL as well as three Writers Guild of America Awards himself, so GH should be in very good hands!
