Catching up With GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Jeffrey Vincent Parise (EXCLUSIVE)

What happened to the long-haired, bearded guy who played GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Carlos, the mobster who loved Sabrina? Written off the show in 2015, Jeffrey Vincent Parise has continued to reinvent himself in new roles. Most recently, he underwent a complete makeover to work on an as-yet-untitled Lifetime thriller from the team behind CMT’s SUN RECORDS. “I’m playing a land developer who’s the husband of the lead character, played by Emilie de Ravin,” [ONCE UPON A TIME’s Belle], he reveals. “[Changing my appearance] really helped me get into this character because he’s nothing like me. When I look into the mirror I don’t see myself at all. I hadn’t seen my face in seven years!”

However, Parise’s rugged appearance did serve him well for his recent role on SUPERNATURAL as Asmodeus. One of the princes of Hell, “he was both powerful and vengeful because of something that happened between him and Lucifer,” he ex- plains. “He spent a lot of the season trying to free the dogs of Hell, so that he could finally destroy Lucifer and take the throne.” Unfortunately for Parise, Asmodeus was eventually overcome by Gabriel, the archangel he’d enraged. But is the villain really gone? “He’s probably about as dead as Carlos,” Parise laughs. “He got shot four times in the chest and came back, so anything is possible.”

In the current season of Netflix’s 13 REASONS WHY, Parise doesn’t play the outcast; rather, he’s his dad! Says the actor: “I play the father of a new character on the show named Cyrus,” a spiky-haired Liberty High student who joins Clay’s fight to obtain justice for Hannah. “He’s a teenager who rebels against authority.” Taking on a parental role was a first for Parise, who couldn’t help feeling proud of his young scene partner. “He’s a really cool kid,” Parise gushes of Bryce Cass. “It was his big break — he was very aware of that and handled it well.”

Perhaps the performer was remembering what it was like when he first waded into new waters with daytime television and found himself sharing scenes with Emmy winner Maura West (Ava). “That was phenomenal — she’s so fluid and refined in her craft,” he recalls. “She’s one of those actresses that after every scene, you feel like you’re a better actor for having been in it with her.”
