Maurice Benard Gave the Most Beautiful Speech at His Daughter’s Graduation Party
Congratulations to Cailey Benard, who has graduated from the University of San Diego! While the ceremony took place on May 26, family and friends gathered together the following Sunday on June 2 for a special Harry Potter-themed graduation party! And of course, that gathering included a heartfelt speech from her father, GENERAL HOSPITAL star and proud papa Maurice Benard (Sonny). “One of the only things I regret in life is that I didn’t get the education I should have,” he admitted on Instagram. “But I feel I can live vicariously through my daughter, Cailey, who in my eyes just climbed Mount Everest!”
Called upon as the father of the graduate to make a speech, Benard nervously stood next to her in front of everyone and joked about having to say something, but then spoke directly from the heart. “I just want to say to my beautiful daughter, I am so proud of this accomplishment you don’t even know,” Benard said, his voice cracking under the weight of the emotion. “I am so, so proud. I can’t tell you. It’s so difficult for me to barely even graduate from high school. And you wanted to do this, you knew you were gonna do it, you were intelligent enough to do it, and you graduated. I can’t tell you how incredible it is, sweetheart.” Naturally, the moment ended in an emotional embrace between father and daughter.
Cailey, who got engaged back in October of 2018, used her graduation party as an opportunity to “propose” to all her groomsmen and bridesmaids in one place at the same time. She shared some photos from the Harry Potter-themed party on her own Instagram, including an Azkaban Prison mugshot photo booth, owls in cages, floating candles, house flags, and even Moaning Myrtle in the bathroom!
