GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Nov. 20 Episode Preempted Nationally

As expected, the extensive news coverage of the impeachment hearings is causing interruptions to the regular daytime television schedule, meaning that fans are having a hard time watching their soaps. Although in the case of the Nov. 20 episode of GENERAL HOSPITAL, loyal viewers don’t have to worry about having to jump through hoops to make sure they don’t miss it as the show is being preempted nationally. “Looks like we’ll be pushing the schedule back another day for all to see on TV,” tweeted ABC executive Nathan Varni. “Note for Canada, you will see an encore tomorrow. Thank you!”

Things get complicated if the preemptions are only in part of the country and GH actually does air in some areas. This forces fans to try and DVR an overnight airing on their local ABC affiliate, watch it on demand, or watch the soap online on either Hulu or ABC.com. Preempting the episode nationally means that while everyone will have to wait another day to find out what happens next, they won’t have to jump through hoops to make sure they don’t miss anything. And obviously, since viewers in Canada had no interruption and were able to see the newest episode, they will simply be treated to a rerun of an old episode the following day while everyone else catches up.

Unfortunately, there are more impeachment hearings scheduled to be held on Thursday, Nov. 21, so the Nov. 20 episode may not air until Nov. 22, but we will keep you up to date as the situation unfolds. So stay tuned for updates so you don’t miss a minute of the drama, and for more GH news, keep reading the ABC edition of Soaps In Depth magazine.
