GENERAL HOSPITAL Nurses Ball 2019: The Performances

There’s always plenty of drama and action at the annual GENERAL HOSPITAL Nurses Ball, but the other reason viewers tune in is to watch their favorite characters take to the stage for some amazing musical numbers! From spectacular song and dance routines to heartfelt emotional performances, this year’s show was one to remember. And to help with that score, we’d like to share video clips of all of the songs so you can relive all the laughter and tears! (Well, minus Ned and Olivia’s performance of “Get Closer” by Seals and Croft, which GH sadly didn’t share on social media.)

First up was the traditional opening number featuring the nursing staff that includes Jacklyn Zeman (Bobbie), Sonya Eddy (Epiphany), Marc Anthony Samuel (Felix), Risa Dorken (Amy), and Michelle Collins (Deann) belting out “Best of My Love” by The Emotions, but of course changing it to “Best of Our Love.”

Josh Swickard’s Chase may have been pressured into performing in last year’s Nurses Ball, but this year, he took the stage with a team of backup dancers to offer an incredible rendition of “Something Just Like This” by The Chainsmokers. And this year it was Willow who reluctantly took to the stage to join him for the end of the song!

Obrecht may have crashed the Nurses Ball one year but that just means that they’re better off just allowing her to perform from the start. This year, Kathleen Gati’s fan-favorite character began singing the Barbara Streisand classic “Guilty” with an unseen male dancer singing the Barry Gibb parts before it was revealed that her co-star was none other than Roger Howarth’s Franco!

The ball took a more serious turn when Cameron Webber took the stage to perform a song called “North Star” that was actually penned by his portrayer, William Lipton, a talented musician in his own right! Accompanying the heartfelt tune was a montage of images of Cameron and his loved ones, including the late Oscar Nero, so there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Maura West has always delivered a show-stopping number as Ava Jerome, and this year she specifically selected Frankie Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” as part of her plan to taunt Ryan Chamberlain and lure him back to Port Charles. Of course, what Ava didn’t realize was that as she was performing her sultry song, Ryan was already backstage causing mayhem!

James Patrick Stuart is also a talented musician, so his performances as Valentin at the Nurses Ball are always a treat. Last year he used his song to woo Nina back, and this year he sang “Nothing Without You” by Vienna Teng as though there was no one else in the room but the woman he loves.

To close out this year’s Nurses Ball, Eden McCoy’s Josslyn took the stage to sing a very special original song, “A List of Things to Do.” The young woman was reluctant at first, but was eventually persuaded to honor Oscar’s last wish, to sing the song they composed on stage in front of everyone.

Unfortunately, after just a few episodes, the Nurses Ball always comes to an end and we have to wait another year before we can have another one. But after this terrific show, we can’t wait to see how they top themselves next year! For more GH news, keep reading the ABC edition of Soaps In Depth magazine.
