GH's Vanessa Marcil Remembers Her Dad on the Anniversary of His Death

Sept. 15, 2018, marked one year since GENERAL HOSPITAL actress Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda) lost her father, Peter Ortiz. And on the day, she shared some heartfelt words of love and remembrance alongside a photo of him hugging his grandson, her boy, Kassius. “Today is the one year anniversary of my father, Pete Ortiz’s, death,” she wrote. “He and my mom would have loved each other for 60 years now. They fell in love at 15.”

However, Marcil has always been up front about the fact that her relationship with her dad wasn’t always the best. “I am the youngest of four siblings,” she revealed. “My father and I didn’t speak for 20 years. He met my son, Kassius, for the first time at age 11. Here they are, hugging as if no time had passed.

“It took me 30 years of intense therapy and getting married for the first time in my adult life to a narcissistic, abusive, self-centered drug addict to use transference to finally completely work through my issues with my dad and forgive him,” she continued. “Most important work I’ve ever done. I’m grateful my son was able to hang out with his grandpa for five years before we lost my father.”

Marcil also explained that she didn’t consider herself a victim in that particular marriage. “It was a conscious choice to try and love and save someone who reminded me of my father,” she clarified. “I left that relationship, of course, and the next day after I kicked that idiot out of my house, I invited my father back into my life. My father came over to my house right away and the rest is history.

“I don’t ever shame myself for any relationships I’ve had,” Marcil concluded. “They are all for a reason if you keep your eyes open. Women are warriors. Rest easy, pop. We did this!”
