Vinessa Antoine Opens up About Leaving GH for Primetime (EXCLUSIVE)

Tags:

In CBS All Access’ upcoming INTERROGATION, GENERAL HOSPITAL‘s Vinessa Antoine (ex-Jordan) plays a recovering alcoholic who’s just getting back on her feet. “It’s based on a true story about a young man accused of murdering his mother in 1983,” the actress explained to Soaps In Depth. “It takes place over the next 30 years. In each episode, somebody is interrogating, interviewing or finding out about another person in the show.”

Among the detectives on the case is one who crosses paths with Antoine’s character. “He’s a loner who doesn’t trust anyone,” the actress offered. “But here comes this gal who proves to be more than just a cute waitress; she’s got street smarts and a heart of gold, and she becomes integral to helping him solve the case.”

Viewers will follow the clues and watch the first nine episodes in the order of their choosing. Along the way, they’ll see Antoine’s character (and her relationship with the detective) evolve. Said the GH alum: “It was cool to change from the ‘90s to the 2000s.”

Antoine’s INTERROGATION scenes were shot in Albuquerque, NM, which meant flying back and forth to Los Angeles to see her teenaged boys. At the moment, the native of Toronto, Canada, is in Nova Scotia working on Season 2 of DIGGSTOWN, the CBC drama in which she plays Marcie Diggs, a successful attorney who, following the suicide of her beloved aunt, ditched corporate law in favor of legal-aid work.

“Marcie takes on the cases of ordinary people going through extraordinary circumstances,” Antoine said in explaining the premise. “I was attracted to the non-stereotypical way that this black woman was being written: She’s not tough and angry… she’s actually kind of naïve to human behavior, and she connects with people out of love, kindness and doing the right thing.”

Having also recently appeared on THE RESIDENT and HUDSON & REX, Antoine believes that she made the right decision in exiting Port Charles. “I was quite depressed because I knew my full potential… There were things that I really wanted to explore and just didn’t have a voice to speak on it,” she admitted. So, “I took a leap, and I couldn’t be happier because so much has happened since that I would never have been able to do while on GH.”
