Wes Ramsey Says Peter ‘Still Cares Very Deeply’ for Maxie on GENERAL HOSPITAL (EXCLUSIVE)

Tags:

Since Peter August first appeared on GENERAL HOSPITAL, he’s stirred up quite a bit of trouble, but could the guy be on the road to redemption at long last? Seeing as how his actions were responsible for bringing Cesar Faison back to Port Charles and led to the death of the beloved Nathan West, the one person that could be hardest to win over may be his widow, Maxie. “There’s a lot of sadness and a lot of regret,” Wes Ramsey told Soaps In Depth of his alter ego’s relationship with Maxie. “Peter obviously still cares very deeply for her. The tragedy that brought them together and the intensity of the emotion in the aftermath of Nathan’s death was such a strong bonding experience. I don’t think Peter had any idea that was going to happen — nor did Maxie.”

One thing that truly helped open Peter’s eyes and change his ways was his experience being kidnapped and tormented by a vengeful Leisl Obrecht. “Obrecht was as cruel as she possibly could be,” Ramsey admitted. “The pain, the infection, the starvation, the sweat, the smell… they tortured him! But that allowed me to step away from Peter August, the suit-wearing Aurora CEO and puppeteer who was getting away with everything and out-smarting everybody. It was certainly humbling to find the complete other side of the spectrum and show Peter’s vulnerability when he was facing his own mortality and his own remorse!”

But just because he’s seen the error of his ways doesn’t mean that Peter will be able to redeem himself in the eyes of the people of Port Charles who he has hurt so deeply. “As far as redemption, Peter’s certainly paid a price for his actions,” the actor mused. “It was a crafty strategy and the brilliance of our writing team, in terms of trying to find some hope for redemption for someone who’s seemed so hopeless and so beyond redeeming.”

Can Peter forge a new life in Port Charles and perhaps even win back Maxie’s friendship… and more? “He’s a master communicator and manipulator,” Ramsey teased. “So he’ll figure something out!”
