Yvonne on GENERAL HOSPITAL — Everything You Need to Know
It was heartbreaking when Mike was put in a nursing home but he found a new friend in Yvonne on GENERAL HOSPITAL. The character was first introduced in December of 2018 with actress Janet Hubert in the role. However, her involvement in Mike’s storyline was equally as heartbreaking.
Mike Corbin was immediately smitten with his fellow resident, but while she caught Mike’s eye, Yvonne is actually married to Stella’s ex, Marcus, which complicated things immensely as her hubby was immediately protective of his wife, who is also suffering from Alzheimer’s. Stella, a social worker, was able to persuade Marcus to let Yvonne go and enjoy whatever happiness she could find with Mike.
However, Mike took things a little too far when he took Finn’s diamond ring and used it to propose to Yvonne! Although their families were initially wary, Mike and Yvonne were eventually married in a tender — but fake — wedding ceremony where Sonny presided over the union.
In August 2020, when Sonny was considering having Mike hooked up to a feeding tube, Felix revealed Yvonne had complications and infections after her tube was inserted and is now on a ventilator. Sonny visited her and was shocked by the sight, making him reconsider his plans.
Hubert is best known as playing Aunt Viv on THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR for the first three seasons before being replaced by Daphne Reid. Fans of the classic sitcom might also remember that Vernee Watson, who now plays Stella on GH, played Will Smith’s mother, Viola ‘Vy’ Smith, so it was a bit of a reunion for the two!
The Chicago-born Hubert was the original Tantomile in the first Broadway production of Cats. She has also guest-starred in numerous primetime series such as NYPD BLUE, GILMORE GIRLS, FRIENDS, and THE BERNIE MAC SHOW. GH isn’t her first foray into daytime, either. In 1999, Hubert played Alice Dawson on ALL MY CHILDREN and then in 2005 (and again briefly in 2007 and 2010), portrayed Evangeline’s mother, Lisa Williamson on ONE LIFE TO LIVE.
