GH’s Anton Wins DANCING!
Kelly Monaco (Sam) isn’t the only person who’s appeared on GENERAL HOSPITAL to win the coveted mirror ball trophy on DANCING WITH THE STARS! Dance pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who played Anton, the Metro Court handyman who not-so-coincidentally danced with Sam at last year’s Nurses Ball, won season 18 of the reality dance competition series with celeb partner Meryl Davis, an Olympic ice-skater.
“I’m not as beside myself as I thought I’d be because I’m incapable of accepting gifts or awards,” Chmerkovskiy told reporters last night after his victory. “Meryl’s a fellow Capricorn she knows what I’m saying. This [victory] is special because of the people who dedicated their time for us. This is about the people who voted and called and stayed up overnight and voted [for us].”
Favored to win this year, Chmerkovskiy tried not to feel too confident that he’d be announced as the victor. “I was talking to my dad about it before the show,” he says. “I said, ‘If I have nothing else to give, then the outcome is irrelevant.’ In my mind, there was nothing more I could have done.”
Fortunately, what Chmerkovskiy had was more than enough to win! Alas, his DWTS schedule this year prevented him from having enough time to reprise his role as Anton for the 2014 Nurses Ball. “It was an awesome experience,” he tells Soaps In Depth of performing on GH.
