Fans of THE WALKING DEAD and GENERAL HOSPITAL might not have realized that the actor playing Ezekiel on the hit AMC series once played a doctor on the ABC soap! That’s right, under all those dreadlocks, actor Khary Payton might be barely recognizable to daytime fans as Dr. Terrell Jackson!

They would be forgiven for not recognizing Payton, who only appeared on GH for a few months from January to March in 2011. Dr. Jackson was first introduced following the bus accident that injured many of Port Charles’ youngsters heading on a ski trip. He jumped in to help out at the emergency room, caring for Morgan Corinthos’ broken leg, although he wasn’t actually working at the hospital yet. He was only there for a job interview, but his quick thinking and impressive skills led then-chief of staff Steven Webber to hire him officially!
However, it was soon revealed that Terrell was in Port Charles for another reason. He was working with his ex, Lisa Niles, to lure Robin away from her husband, Patrick. Lisa wanted Patrick all to herself, but Terrell wanted Lisa, who promised him a second chance if she did her bidding. However, as he got to know Robin and care about her, he couldn’t go through with it, leaving Lisa to plot her own increasingly more desperate schemes.

Later, Terrell was seen again when he sadly informed Carly and Jax that their daughter, Josslyn, had cancer and required a kidney transplant. Although he admitted that it was unlikely they would find a suitable donor since she was a child, when Jake Spencer was left brain dead after a hit and run, Carly begged Jason to let Jake’s kidney save Josslyn’s life. After the parents agreed, Dr. Jackson performed the surgery that saved Josslyn’s life.
Payton can currently be seen as Ezekiel, the leader of the group of survivors at The Kingdom on THE WALKING DEAD. But he can also be heard, if not seen, in numerous animated series as the actor has done lots of voice work for both video games and cartoons. Viewers might recognize his voice as Aqualad on YOUNG JUSTICE, Cyborg on TEEN TITANS GO! or JUSTICE LEAGUE ACTION, or as Wasabi in BIG HERO 6: THE SERIES.
