More Emmy Reaction From The Nominees!

Soaps In Depth caught up with a few more GENERAL HOSPITAL stars to congratulate them on their Daytime Emmy nominations! Here’s what they had to say!

Even though he’s no longer a part of the GENERAL HOSPITAL canvas, Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky) still feels connected to his former co-stars who are fellow Daytime Emmy nominees. “I was really excited that Tony Geary (Luke) got nominated, and Becky Herbst (Elizabeth) and Nathan Parsons (ex-Ethan). I feel a part of it because I pretty much worked through the entire last year. It doesn’t feel too strange being off the show and still connected in that way.” For his reel, Jackson submitted the scenes where Lucky confronted Luke about Jake’s death at the Haunted Star. “Basically, being locked in a room with Tony for seven scenes,” he laughs. “It was pretty intense.”

While Jackson learned of his nod when a friend sent him a text message, both Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) and Maurice Benard (Sonny) learned of their nominations via Twitter! “I got up with the baby at 6:45, so I wasn’t even paying attention [to the nominations] because she’s all over the place now. Then it got to be about 8:00, and it occurred to me that the nominations came out. I wanted to see who was nominated and I went onto Twitter and saw ‘Congratulations.’ So thank you, my Twitter followers for telling me the good news!”

Benard says that his wife, Paula, was the first to see the news of his Lead Actor nomination, courtesy of GH headwriter Ron Carlivati. “She saw Ron say congratulations on Twitter and she said, ‘I guess you got nominated, Honey,'” says Benard, who submitted the scenes where Sonny and Brenda broke up. “He’s saying one thing, and meaning another. It’s universal when you break up with a woman; people understand that. It’s not one of those episodes where it’s a lot of flashy stuff and camera work. It’s straight-up talking.”

Jason Thompson (Patrick) is competing against three of his GH castmates in the Supporting Actor category, which he never expected. “I was a little shocked by it,” confesses the actor of his nomination. He received the news when his agent called him from Israel! “It was pretty funny. But that [conversation] was pretty short-lived because I was excited about her being in Israel and wanted to know what she was doing there!” Thompson reveals that he actually had a difficult time deciding on what to submit, before ultimately settling on Emma’s birthday. “I remember doing them and I felt really connected to what Kimberly McCullough (ex-Robin) and I were doing and to Emma. It’s nice to have those really pulled-in, genuine heartfelt moments about real connection.”
