Laura Wright Reveals the GENERAL HOSPITAL Scenes She Submitted to the Daytime Emmys (EXCLUSIVE)

Tags:

This year marks the fifth time that Laura Wright has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress at the Daytime Emmy Awards for playing Carly Corinthos on GENERAL HOSPITAL (she took home the trophy in 2011), but the feeling of being up for daytime’s greatest honor never gets old! “It feels great,” she confided to Soaps In Depth. “I’m super excited.”

The morning of March 21, when the nominations were announced, Wright had already been working and was home by 10 a.m. having breakfast with boyfriend Wes Ramsey (Peter) when GH executive producer Frank Valentini called with the great news. “It was awesome, and of course Wesley was like, “I gotta go buy champagne!’” she recalled. “I was like, ‘Not yet,’ because Frank called me after 11. So we finished eating and cleaned up the kitchen. He poured me a glass of wine and read me The Fountainhead. We had a full day of relaxing and celebrating in a really calm way. Then we went out to dinner the next night and had champagne and celebrated with some friends.”

With so many powerful storylines to play on GH, Wright had an embarrassment of riches to choose from when selecting scenes to submit for Emmy consideration. But she was able to narrow it down to a few choice moments that show her talent and range. “I submitted scenes with Sonny and Carly when she thought he’d had an affair with Nelle,” the actress revealed. “Then the scenes where Carly confronted Josslyn after she realized she had a party at her house. And then I submitted the scenes where Sonny was telling me that Jason was alive and then almost the entire show of Jason coming back when Carly saw Jason for the first time. I played that as real as I possibly could; What if someone you love came back? So many people would love that to be true in life, so you have to find the reality within the suspended reality.”

However, she’s up against some stiff competition in the Lead Actress category this year, with castmates Maura West (Ava) and Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) in the running as well as Eileen Davidson (Ashley, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) and Marci Miller (Abigail, DAYS OF OUR LIVES). “Would I love my name to be called?” Wright admitted. “Sure. Will I be happy if Nancy or Maura win? Absolutely! And Eileen and Marci. It’s great. Everyone deserves to be there. We all work hard. Every one of us. This is not an easy job.”
