Congratulations to daytime alum Cady McClain, who took home the award for Best Documentary Short at the Burbank Film Festival for her film Seeing Is Believing: Women Direct! The actress-turned-director took to Instagram to thank everyone involved. “And so many more who have supported, encouraged, engaged with, fought for, showed up to, shared insights with, gave a chance and who carried me when I was too exhausted to move myself. I share every bit of this recognition with you.”
This is a triumphant moment for McClain, who daytime fans remember fondly as ALL MY CHILDREN’s Dixie, AS THE WORLD TURNS’ Rosanna, and THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Kelly. She spent a year interviewing the movers and shakers of the entertainment industry to glean insight about the challenges faced by women directors for her documentary series, a short version of which screened at the Burbank Film Festival this year.
Not only was she seeking to learn something about the career that she’s transitioning into herself, but she also wanted to be of service to young women coming up behind her. “There is a very delicate balance between being strong and being soft,” McClain tells Soaps In Depth of what she’s learned thus far. “You don’t have to give up your femininity to be a leader.
McClain couldn’t be more passionate about the importance of the project. “I think art is really important because it’s where society tends to look for deeper answers,” she offers. “So I hope this documentary will encourage women, in particular, to continue to tell their stories, speak out and know that there are people who want to hear it.”
