Amy's brother, Chet, continues to appear on GENERAL HOSPITAL, but so infrequently that some viewers might need a little background on the character and the actor who plays him. Real-life military veteran-turned-actor Chris Van Etten made his daytime debut in the episode that aired on Nov. 8, 2017. “My brother!” enthused Risa Dorken (Amy) on Twitter at the time of his casting. “You guys will love him as much as I do! Welcome to the GH (and Driscoll) family, Chris!”
Chet struggled with drug addiction to painkillers following his service in the military, and Amy tried to help pay for his treatment but needed more money, so she enlisted Nathan West to pose as the face of Man Landers, the online advice column she hoped to turn into a book. Chet initially resisted Amy’s attempts to help her, but she eventually got through to her sibling. In April of 2018, Chet reappeared to offer Maxie Jones his condolences on Nathan’s death. He urged her to let go of her anger against Henrik Faison and get her own life back on track.
Maxie ran into Chet again just before Christmas in 2018 when she was dropping off some donations for Toys for Tots. The former soldier was in full uniform and working with the charity. The friends made small talk and Maxie ended up inviting Chet to join her at Anna’s Christmas party since his sister had to work at the hospital. And although when Chet reappeared in January of 2019, Sonny offered him a job managing the boxing gym, when Maxie and Lulu went to The Floating Rib just a couple months later, they found Chet working there! (Lulu also felt like Chet was flirting with Maxie, but Maxie insisted they were just friends.)
The United States Marine Corps veteran might look familiar to some from his modeling contract with Jockey underwear. And amusingly, begin cast on GH wasn’t Van Etten’s first brush with Port Charles. Back in the summer of 2017 when the soap announced that Chris Van Etten was going to join Jean Passanante as co-headwriter, some people got the two men confused when Googling around! “Congratulations to the other Chris Van Etten for his new position at GH,” the vet joked on Twitter at the time, “according to everyone confusing me for him.” Of course now the writer Chris Van Etten has been penning dialogue for the soldier/model/actor Chris Van Etten, which is just crazy when you think about it!
