Daytime Emmy Awards Merge Younger Actress and Actor Categories

Tags:

The Daytime Emmy Awards are about to get more challenging for the younger stars — The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is combining the Outstanding Younger Actor and Outstanding Younger Actress categories into one single category for both genders, Variety is reporting. The categories were first introduced to the Daytime Emmys back in 1985 when they were called Outstanding Young Man and Outstanding Ingenue. (Brian Bloom took home the first for his work as Dusty on AS THE WORLD TURNS and Tracey E. Bregman took home the latter for playing Lauren on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS.)

The Daytime Emmys already have one category that includes both genders, Outstanding Guest Performer. In addition, the new Outstanding Younger Performer category will also include both broadcast soaps and the digital drama series in its nominees. The Younger Actor and Actress categories recognize the talents of performers aged 25 and under. The final winners in the separate categories earlier this year were Kyler Pettis (ex-Theo, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) and Hayley Erin (ex-Kiki, GENERAL HOSPITAL).

NATAS already instituted some changes to the 2019 Daytime Emmys, and we will keep you up to date on any further changes that are made to next year’s awards. For more news on your favorite daytime dramas, keep reading Soaps In Depth magazine.
