The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has been getting soap fans excited for the 2017 Daytime Emmy Awards by releasing the acting reels submitted by all the nominees so viewers can see the exact same material that the judges are when they make their final decision about who will take home the gold on Emmy night!
NATAS has just posted the amazing reels from Lead Actor nominees Peter Bergman (Jack, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS), Scott Clifton (Liam, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL), Billy Flynn (Chad, DAYS OF OUR LIVES), Vincent Irizarry (Deimos, DAYS), and Kristoff St. John (Neil, Y&R), so take a look and see who you think should win the Emmy!
Peter Bergman (Jack, Y&R)
Discovering his wife’s affair with his brother turned Jack’s life upside down, but gave Bergman plenty of incredible material to pick from for his reel. It starts with the scenes where Jack forced Phyllis to admit to cheating on him and the emotional fallout that followed as Jack angrily tried to process the news. The final scenes on the tape are the scenes where Phyllis begs Jack not to divorce her, and he coldly puts her in her place.
Scott Clifton (Liam, B&B)
Clifton began his reel with the scenes where an amnesiac Liam believes that Quinn is his wife and struggles to remember her, followed by the scenes where he remembers the truth and confronts Quinn about lying to him for all this time. After that are the scenes where Quinn tries to apologize to Liam, but he flies into a rage and nearly chokes her. And it concludes with Liam confronting Bill about his relationship with Brooke, and Bill turns it around to be about Liam and Steffy.
Billy Flynn (Chad, DAYS)
Flynn’s powerful submission opens with the scenes of Chad’s conversation with Stefano about the DiMera legacy and ends with his emotional monologue as he mourns Abigail while looking at her photograph and trashes the living room in a grief-stricken rage.
Vincent Irizarry (Deimos, DAYS)
Irizarry selected to showcase his talents by filling his reel with scenes opposite Arianne Zucker’s Nicole. The first half is the dockside conversation where Deimos reacts to Nicole’s revelation that he’s the father of Chloe’s baby going from shock to frustration and anger. The second half is Deimos trying to get Nicole to admit her feelings about him, with a little epilogue of the tender moment with Deimos playing piano after he and Nicole made love.
Kristoff St. John (Neil, Y&R)
Neil’s reunion with his estranged mother, Lucinda, was St. John’s choice for this year’s Emmy submission. The lovely scenes of Neil filling in his ailing mother about all of the things in his life she’d missed out on and reconciling with her end tragically with Lucinda passing away and Neil breaking down in tears at her bedside.
All five of these actors are extremely talented, and these reels showcase their skills with such powerful performances, the judges are going to have a very difficult time selecting a winner. Tune in to the Daytime Emmys on Sunday, April 30 (click here to find out out to watch them live!) to see if you’ve correctly predicted the winner!
