During this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards, two soaps reached milestones and received special tributes, one of which was a celebration of GENERAL HOSPITAL’s 55th anniversary on the air. During the broadcast, Outstanding Lead Actress nominee Laura Wright (Carly) took to the stage to introduce the very special clip package. “Most of us can’t remember a time when GH was not a part of our lives,” she related. “We grew up watching and the show has an enormous following to this day. As we celebrate 55 years on the air. As we look back at over five decades of storytelling, laughter and tears — and yes, I can attest to many tears — I am honored to be a part of this iconic show and i know we all look forward to another 55 years on the air! Hell yeah! Here’s a look back at some of the unforgettable faces and moments from our show. Happy anniversary to the entire GH family in front of and behind the cameras.”
The tribute then begins by going all the way back to 1963 with Steve Hardy and Jesse Brewer, then moving on to encompass over five decades of daytime drama in Port Charles. Iconic moments like Luke and Laura’s wedding, B.J.’s heart transplant, Stone’s death, the Ice Princess storyline, and more. Classic characters like Noah Drake, Alan Quartermaine, Brenda Barrett, and more all make appearances. Heck, even Helena Cassadine’s curse is included!
And now you can enjoy this look back at all your favorite characters, romance, drama, and action over and over again with this special video of the epic tribute montage.
Following the tribute, the GH cast members in attendance at the Emmys took to the stage for a round of applause and a standing ovation to commemorate this incredible daytime milestone. And here’s to another five decades to come!
