Fan-favorite character Lesley Webber is coming home to GENERAL HOSPITAL! Daytime vet Denise Alexander is set to reprise her role of Laura's mother in the special episode celebrating the soap's 56th anniversary.
Alexander made her daytime debut as Lois Adams on THE CLEAR HORIZON in 1960, but her big break came when she played Susan Hunter Martin on DAYS OF OUR LIVES from 1966-1973. After she was written out of DAYS, Alexander was cast on GH as Dr. Lesley Williams. After more than a decade in Port Charles, the actress left to play Mary McKinnon on ANOTHER WORLD, but returned to the role of Lesley in 1996. She continued on the soap in a recurring basis for years, but the character basically faded into the background around 2009. She did make a return appearance in 2013 for GH’s 50th anniversary celebration, however, and more recently in December, 2017, to attend Laura's wedding to Kevin (although she ended up officiating at the ceremony, too!).
Lesley and Rick Webber were one of the popular supercouples of GH in the ‘70s and early ‘80s, but their love story came to an end when Lesley died in a car accident in 1984. Thankfully, it was revealed in 1996 that Stefan Cassadine, who had kidnapped Laura years earlier, was actually holding Lesley in a catatonic state. With Luke’s help, Laura and Lesley were able to escape the Cassadines and return to Port Charles.
Hopefully, Lesley will stick around after the anniversary celebration for further appearances, because with everything Laura is going through right now, she could certainly use her mother's shoulder to lean on! For more GH casting news, keep reading the ABC edition of Soaps In Depth magazine.
