When Nurse Mary Pat’s severed head came floating to the top of the barrel of apples at the Halloween party on GENERAL HOSPITAL, viewers could be forgiven for wondering if actress Patricia Bethune was actually under the water herself because it looked so real! But actually, the talented artists at Vincent Van Dyke Effects created the latex head after doing a cast of Bethune’s face. “It’s a bummer to go,” the actress admitted of the end of her GH run, “but it’s all been such a fun experience.”
You can see some great photos that Bethune snapped of her experience in the makeup chair by clicking through her Instagram gallery right here!
GH also shared a video where you can see the entire arduous procedure from start to finish — thankfully sped up! — followed by Bethune’s goodbye to fans. “My head is still here,” she joked. “It all went well. Yay! They were great. Nice, wonderful people. And please enjoy the making of my dead head!”
Behind The Scenes: Making Mary Pat's Head
Thanks to our friends at Vincent Van Dyke Effects, you've got an inside look into the process of beheading, the very lovely, Patricia Bethune! Enjoy!Posted by General Hospital on Sunday, November 4, 2018
Even Laura Wright, whose character of Carly was the one who discovered the grisly surprise while bobbing for apples at The Floating Rib’s Halloween fundraiser party, got in on the backstage fun. Once the episode had finally aired, the actress was able to share an awesome behind the scenes photo without spoiling the shocking twist! “Yep, I love my job,” she shared. “I couldn’t wait to post this picture!”
Poor Mary Pat met a terrible end once she tried to blackmail Kevin, not realizing he was really his serial killer brother, Ryan Chamberlain. Not only did he stick her severed head in with the apples at the party, he also topped the rest of her body with a jack-o-lantern and propped her up in Ava’s art gallery to be discovered! Yikes! Halloween may be over now, but with Ryan on the loose, the horror isn't over yet, so stay tuned! And for more GH news, keep reading the ABC edition of Soaps In Depth magazine!
