General Hospital's Emme Rylan on Dante and Lulu's Future

When Dominic Zamprogna exited GENERAL HOSPITAL, Dante went undercover with the WSB in the blink of an eye. But Emme Rylan, who plays Lulu, appreciated the farewell that the Falconeris got to have. “They gave us a little moment, and it felt like that moment was honest,” she confided to Soaps In Depth. “We went into the scenes as Dante and Lulu, and at some point, halfway through, we were crying as ourselves and saying good-bye to each other. I was crying so much, I couldn’t even say the lines during blocking!”

While she’d love to see Zamprogna recur on occasion, Rylan’s keeping an open mind. “Could I be a bigger hypocrite than if I said, ‘Oh my God, don’t recast!’?” chuckled the actress, who took over for Julie Marie Berman on GH after also being a recast over on CBS as THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Abby and GUIDING LIGHT’s Lizzie. “It’s hard when you’ve been working with someone for five years. You can never say it would be ‘great’ if they recast — because that’s my friend. And can you imagine if Dante and Lulu are both recasts trying to recreate what two other actors had? But it happens a lot, and we’ve seen it work, so I’m going to play whatever they write. I never try to control the storyline.”

While up for anything, Rylan does have one big ask for her character. “Dante leaving shakes up Lulu’s world, so I really want us to shake it out,” she said with a grin. “I hope they write something totally different for Lulu. Let her maybe start to unravel or panic — because we’ve already seen Lulu as this happy wife and mom.”

Rylan is game to go on a Spencer adventure, too — or get involved in another slapstick bestie caper! — to find Lulu’s man. But she’s not necessarily looking for a win. “Maybe Lulu will go hunting for Dante and find something that makes it look like he died,” she offers. “Or maybe something traumatic happens, and he’s just not there for her. I don’t know… but I want her to totally lose it and become a mess before Dom comes back or a recast comes in. There’s a lot of directions we could go. I hope they’re planning something really good!”
