Ava is struggling to move on with her life on GENERAL HOSPITAL, but Ryan just can’t let go of his true love. “There is no letting go!” portrayer Jon Lindstrom cried to Soaps In Depth. “He’s still stuck on her. He believes he knows her in a way she doesn’t know herself. They’re bound. They’re entwined! And that is very narcissistic.”
As far as Ryan’s concerned, their lovers’ quarrel isn’t really about Kiki’s murder. “The fact that Ava could have been fooled like that is what gets her,” Lindstrom explained. “That’s what bugs her the most. She was so fooled by him. But I mean, he fooled everybody. She should give herself a break!”
To Ryan’s credit, he did do an incredible job of replacing his twin and infiltrating Kevin’s life — because he was prepared. “He’d been sitting in that room in a straitjacket all those years, plotting,” Lindstrom reminded. “How would he do it? What would he do? So those were almost rehearsed moves for him. That’s why he was so calm.”
Toward the end, however, Ryan’s game totally fell apart. Not only did Ava, Franco and Jordan play on his love and his vanity to lure him back to Port Charles, but locals then stole his kidney to save the police commissioner. “Okay, they fooled me for a week — one day,” Lindstrom reluctantly sniffed in character. “But I fooled them for a year! It was pretty dark.”
There’s no doubt that Ryan’s plotting again now… but should he escape once more, at least his missing hand will give him away this time. “You leave a little piece of yourself behind in everything you do — and in Ryan’s case, it was an organ and an appendage, I guess,” cracked Lindstrom. “They’re taking him down, piece by piece.”
