Kathleen Gati Reveals the Time Even She Thought Obrecht Went Too Far! (EXCLUSIVE)

Tags:

Over the years, Dr. Liesl Obrecht has done some pretty dastardly things on GENERAL HOSPITAL, and portrayer Kathleen Gati has happily brought them all to the screen. However, she admitted to Soaps In Depth there was one time when she feared her character may have gone too far, and that’s when she kidnapped Peter following Nathan’s death! “I loved the comedy of it all, but the torture stuff was hard sometimes,” she confessed. “I hit him with a knife, threw an axe at him, and did all these terrible things.”

However, it was one of those comedic moments that really struck home with her. “That scene where I ate the sandwich in front of him?” Gati recalled. “I’m descended from Eastern European parents, and when someone is starving, you feed them! That’s how I grew up. So I was tormented by it.”

The actress also anticipated there might be some blowback from GH fans for her actions, but it turned out that a great many of them weren’t big fans of Peter at the time anyway. “I thought I was going to get trampled on by the audience for all of it,” Gati revealed. “But fans on Twitter were like, ‘Obrecht, go get him!’ Are you kidding?”

Still, that’s not to say that Obrecht herself doesn’t have some haters in the audience, but Gati has learned to roll with the punches. “People write some nasty things online, and yeah, you’re right — she’s horrible,” she chuckled. “I hate her sometimes, too! But the audience needs people to hate so they can have heroes. So I’m making room for other people to be loved.”
