We Asked Laura Wright to Pick Her Favorite GH Leading Man (EXCLUSIVE)
Although not the first actress to play the role of Carly Benson Corinthos on GENERAL HOSPITAL, Laura Wright has been playing the beleaguered heroine since 2005, and has shared the screen with plenty of handsome and talented leading men over the years. Of course, when asked to play favorites, she struggled a bit! “Gosh, I can’t pick just one!” Wright exclaimed to Soaps In Depth. “I love the Jax and Carly dynamic… and I love working with Ingo Rademacher. And I loved working with Roger Howarth as Todd!”
Whether Howarth is playing his current role of Franco Baldwin or his ONE LIFE TO LIVE transplant, Todd Manning, sharing scenes with the actor is always something special. “Todd and Carly were a great pairing for who they were at the time,” she recalled, and anyone will tell you, Roger’s got some great one-liners when you’re rehearsing.”

Of course, countless GH fans can’t imagine Carly with anyone but her one, true love, Sonny, played by the incredible Maurice Benard. “And then I never got to play the love story with Maurice until this last go-’round,” Wright admitted. “We’d have sex in the back of a limo or be fighting exes, but what I love so much about Sonny and Carly is that it’s as real as we can make it… in a soap opera Mob story. We really play the deep love and know that, at the end of the day, with all the people we’ve been connected to, it’s always Sonny and Carly. That’s amazing.
“And I’m really close with Maurice,” she continued. “He’s a dear friend. We work extremely well together, and we’re very much invested in this. What’s great about Maurice is that if they throw a monkey wrench into the relationship or try to bring an ex-lover back, we love playing the stories. We don’t get caught up in our own egos or say, ‘Our characters wouldn’t do this.’ We figure out how we can make the show and our characters benefit by the storyline. We work hard at telling the couple’s story together.”
