GH's Maurice Benard Mourns the Death of His Dog, Cain

Please join us in sending lots of love to GENERAL HOSPITAL star Maurice Benard (Sonny), who has lost his beloved Akita, Cain. “Sometimes life throws you a curve ball,” he posted to Instagram with a photo of his furry family member. “Well, life threw me a home run. He was my partner, my best friend, and he was my buddy. Rest in peace my sweet boy.”

Benard is an animal lover, as you can plainly see from the photos of the other family pets he shows off on his Instagram page, but Cain was clearly something very special to the actor. He was constantly referring to him as his protector and bodyguard, and also that he would do anything in his power to protect his beloved pet.

Akitas are a large breed originating in Japan, and are said to be powerful, independent, and dominant. While they can be aloof with strangers, they are very affectionate to their family members, which in Cain’s case included Benard, his wife, Paula, and their kids, Heather, Cailey, Cassidy, and Joshua.
