Halloween is fast approaching, and GENERAL HOSPITAL fans will soon be able to see one of their favorite stars, Maurice Benard (Sonny), in a whole new role… as a priest! Benard is playing Father Benedict in the upcoming horror anthology film Nightmare Cinema, which is scheduled to release at the end of October. “Come see me in a role that will chill you to the bone,” the actor teased his fans on Twitter. “So excited for Nightmare Cinema to come out. It was amazing and difficult to play a priest.”
In Nightmare Cinema, Mickey Rourke stars as “The Projectionist” who brings viewers deepest, darkest fears to life on the silver screen when they visit his run-down theater. Unfortunately, aside from reporting that he’s playing a priest, Benard has not revealed any details regarding his particular section of the anthology. Also appearing in the film are Richard Chamberlain and Eric Nelsen (AJ, ALL MY CHILDREN).
Produced by Mick Garris, who created Showtime’s MASTERS OF HORROR, Nightmare Cinema the film will feature five separate scary stories directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Howling), Garris (The Stand, Psycho IV), Alejandro Brugués (Juan of the Dead), Ryuhei Kitamura (Midnight Meat Train), and David Slade (Twilight: Eclipse, 30 Days of Night, Hanniabal).
Benard recently appeared as a police detective in the Lifetime Movie A Lover Betrayed alongside AMC’s Jamie Luner (Liza), and has also shot the role of music mogul Peter Duran in the indie film Hold On. But this Halloween, GH fans will get to see the star as a man of the cloth. There’s nothing that Benard can’t do!
