GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Nancy Lee Grahn Mourns the Death of Her Mother, Barbara
Please join us in sending love to Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis, GENERAL HOSPITAL) who is mourning the death of her mother, Barbara, who passed away on July 17 at the age of 90. “‘They tell me I get a golden rocket ticket. I’m ready, but I can’t take you with me.’ — my mom,” the actress shared on twitter. “And off she went. I won the jackpot of moms. I can assure you, she is not resting in peace but thriving in utter well-deserved bliss. I am thrilled and beyond grateful for her.”
A week earlier, Grahn expressed her gratitude for her mother’s hospice caretaker and was overwhelmed by the news that fans had launched a GoFundMe for Smile Train, Inc. as a show of support for the family. “This touches me in an indescribable way right now,” she said. “Many thanks.”
When the fundraiser hit its goal, Grahn responded: “Thrilled. Mom was born in 1929 with a cleft palate. Many surgeries and heartbreak from stares, exclusion and bullying, and yet mom never shared that pain. Instead, she became a successful publisher at SDRS and the first woman there to wear pants. She, through her example, taught us to be fierce.” That GoFundMe is still open at the link above if you would like to donate in her memory.
In Barbara’s final days, she maintained that fighting spirit. “Mom, for the last three weeks, is negotiating her flight to the next station,” Grahn tweeted four days before her passing. “Watching her struggle this morning and Mom caught my inner thoughts wishing for her to be free of it. She opened her eyes, looked at me, and said, ‘Easy for you to say. You wouldn’t want to go, either.’ #hospicehumor”
