It's been years since Natalia Livingston has played Emily Quartermaine on GENERAL HOSPITAL, and although her 2013 and 2014 appearances were as a ghost, the actress confided to Soaps In Depth she'd love to bring the beloved character back… alive! "If it was actually Emily returning, that would be exciting," she declared. "I think if it was actually somehow Emily returning and maybe she was never really killed… I mean, I've seen so many clever, brilliant storyline ideas over the years that people have tweeted or sent so… yeah, I would definitely be open to that. But I'm not so sure about a ghost."
After joining the cast of GH in 2003, Livingston portrayed Emily right up until her tragic murder in 2007, winning the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2005. The actress made periodic ghostly appearances into 2008, then returned as an Emily look-alike Rebecca Shaw in 2009 for nearly a year. In 2013, Livingston joined many other GH vets in making special appearances on the soap for its 50th anniversary.
Still, no longer living in Los Angeles and having a whole new career producing — her award-winning documentary In Their Shoes is making a big splash on the film festival circuit — as well as raising her beautiful daughter Collette, Livingston more than has her hands full. "I loved that character," she admitted. "And I miss the show and I miss everybody there I worked with. But yeah, I'm very, very happy now, thank God. And here in Atlanta, there's so much going on. I have my own acting studio and that keeps me really connected to the industry here in Atlanta. And it's so nice. Rick [Hearst (ex-Ric) and I actually work together; He's with Actor Boutique as well."
Like all soaps, GH has a history of bringing people back from the dead — Emily's fiancé, Nikolas being a recent example — so there's no reason a creative writer or producer couldn't come up with a way to bring Emily back to Port Charles alive and well. Maybe someday!
