Premiere Entertainment Group added the film to its slate before it screened at the festival on May 18, according to Screen Daily. Encounter centers around a documentary filmmaker who visits a UFO convention in New Mexico to expose the lives of alien abductees. He and his crew encounter an artist with a dark secret, and she leads them to uncover a disturbing truth as they become involved in the culture of the Pueblo Indians.
The film stars Peter Stormare, and also features Carnes’ former GH castmate Dee Wallace, who briefly appeared on the soap as Luke and Bobbie’s older sister, Patricia Spencer in 2015. Carnes shared a disturbing pic from the film’s set where he appears to be laying on a gurney, and we expect something terrible to happen to his character at some point soon after this!
“We are proud to be introducing Encounter to the foreign buyers in Cannes,” Premiere Entertainment vice-president of development and acquisitions Carlos Rincon said. “The film features terrific visual effects and promises to keep everyone on the edge of their seat.”
This isn’t Carnes’ first experience with science fiction. Back in 2007, he appeared in a two-part episode of the British series Doctor Who as a human who had been partially turned into a pig. He’s also co-producing and appearing in a post-apocalyptic adventure film called Amaranth that is currently attempting to raise funding through its Indiegogo page.
While that feature may be a ways off, we look forward to watching Carnes encountering aliens in New Mexico when Encounter is released sometime this year! Stay tuned for updates!
