GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Tamara Braun Responds to Online Haters

Tags:

Social media is a great way for fans to stay in touch with their favorite stars, but sometimes there are “fans” who use it to spread negativity and make rude comments. GENERAL HOSPITAL star Tamara Braun (Kim) was on the receiving end of such an attack on Twitter, and handed the situation with grace and class. The offending tweets are not viewable because the user — a Drew and Sam fan — has their posts protected so they are only visible to confirmed followers, but Braun’s responses give a pretty clear picture of the story.

“Hi there,” the actress replied. “I have a question for you. Why do you follow me on social media if you find me so irritating and want to write unkind things about me?” After the “fan” responded, Braun added, “Yes I did. ‘[barf emoji] and spastic squirrel’ are what you wrote. I think you have forgotten that I’m a person with feelings who plays Kim. You don’t have to like what I do but maybe think about the person at the end of the tweet before being mean. Just a suggestion.” She also added the hashtag “#BeKind.”

Clearly, this particular “fan” didn’t feel like apologizing. “Okay, sweetheart,” Braun tweeted later, “I see you’re not someone who can accept responsibility for your actions. It’s hard. My intention was to give you the benefit of the doubt and ask. Maybe you didn’t get it? You don’t. Think it’s best to end this. Have a good one. #BeKind”

Fans rallied to Braun’s defense online, as did some of her GH castmates. “Good for you for calling them out,” posted Laura Wright (Carly). “It’s crazy how people will tweet something so nasty. People need to stop.”

After blocking that particular “fan,” Braun shared a message to all her followers, one which she pinned to the top of her Twitter page so everyone would see it because it’s good advice. “Hey kind ones,” she wrote. “Thank you for your words. Thanks for the love and support. I appreciate you.” Let’s remember that we don’t have to be unkind back because someone else was. Ask honest questions, try to share something of value, and if there is no acceptance, then let it go.”

Back in August of 2018, Braun fired back at a fan who made fun of the glasses that she wore in an episode of GH as Dr. Nero, revealing that those particular specs were her own real-life pair and she loves them. Hopefully, one day all soap fans will learn how to behave properly on social media, but until then, these kind of reminders will continue to be necessary.
