When Vinessa Antoine left GENERAL HOSPITAL to play Marcie Diggs in the new CBC series DIGGSTOWN, many of her American fans were worried they wouldn’t get to see the actress in her new starring role. “Good news!” Antoine shared on Instagram. “Looks like DIGGSTOWN will be crossing all kinds of Canadian borders! Woo hoo! Thank you, eOne for global distribution!" However, while the series premieres in Canada on March 6, there are still no details as to when U.S. viewers will be able to watch. "Unfortunately unless you can stream with the
#CBC gem App, there isn’t a way to watch it in the USA yet," Antoine tweeted, "A little birdie told me that a USA distribution is in the works. So stay tuned..."
Entertainment One picked up the international television rights for the legal drama and will handle distribution for the series outside of English-speaking Canada. “Adding to our diverse and robust slate, DIGGSTOWN builds on our offering of distinctive dramas featuring compelling characters and multifaceted storylines in a distinct and unique location,” said Noel Hedges, eOne’s executive VP of acquisitions and international distribution in a statement.
DIGGSTOWN series creator Floyd Kane declared: “We are pleased to have eOne, a world-class media company, as our partner on DIGGSTOWN. Noel and his team are the perfect fit for the brand of elevated episodic drama we’re hoping to make.”
Entertainment One handles film and music as well, but as for their television properties, they run the gamut from scripted shows like THE ROOKIE and DESIGNATED SURVIVOR to reality series like EX ON THE BEACH and CHOPPED CANADA.
DIGGSTOWN is currently still in production on its first season — Antoine has been sharing some fun behind the scenes peeks at the series as they shoot — so once it’s ready to begin airing in Canada, there should be more details as to where and when US audiences should tune in to watch as well. So stay tuned and we’ll update you as more information is made available closer to its premiere.
