GH’s Ingle Passes Away

Beloved GENERAL HOSPITAL veteran John Ingle (Edward) died last night following a battle with cancer. The actor, who was 84, made his final GH appearance last Tuesday, September 11. One of his daughters just posted the following message on Facebook: “Father, Husband, Grandan, Great Grandan, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Teacher, Inspirer, Mentor: May You Soar with the Angels. You will forever hold a special place in the deepest corners of our hearts. You were joy, light and love. Goodness at its very best. For the rest of our days, we will all do our best to continue to make you proud. Rest in peace and continue to spread your generous spirit in the heavens above.”

Prior to launching his acting career in the early ’80s, Ingle was a drama teacher at Beverly Hills and Hollywood high schools, where some of his students included FAMILY TIES star Meredith Baxter, PARENTHOOD’s Richard Dreyfuss, DYNASTY’s Linda Evans, MIKE & MOLLY’s Swoosie Kurtz, FRIENDS star David Schwimmer and Nicolas Cage. Ingle took over the role of the cantankerous Quartermaine family patriarch from predecessor David Lewis in 1993. He later played DAYS OF OUR LIVES’ Mickey Horton from 2004-’06, but reclaimed his GH role from Jed Alan later that year and has been playing Edward ever since. Even while working in daytime, the Tulsa, OK, native also had recurring roles on THE LAND BEFORE TIME, THE DREW CAREY SHOW and HBO’s BIG LOVE. He also appeared as Edward on the GH spin-off PORT CHARLES.

Ingle is survived by his five daughters, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Sadly, his beloved wife, Grace-Lynn, passed away in February of this year. Our condolences go out to his family at this difficult time.
