Jason Thompson’s Best Year Ever!

Tags:

Jason Thompson (Patrick, GENERAL HOSPITAL) actually kind of forgot that the nominations for the Daytime Emmys were going to be announced this morning! “I wasn’t feeling well last night, so I didn’t get the best sleep,” he confesses. “But then I heard my phone buzz this morning. My dad called and congratulated me. For a second, when I picked up the phone, I didn’t know if he was going to say, ‘Oh well, maybe next year,’ or ‘Congratulations!’ Thankfully it was ‘Congratulations!'”

While the actor had plenty of juicy material to choose from, he struggled to choose an episode to submit. “It wasn’t an easy decision,” Thompson admits. “I looked for a while. I had a feeling on a couple of things and then some people gave me some good advice. I put it in the hands of some people that I respected and trusted. I tried to not judge it myself as much.”

“I ended up putting in the episode with the tie scene,” he adds. “Where he wakes up and sees the ghost of Robin a couple ties when he’s in bed, when he’s in the shower and when he’s tying his tie. Then he comes downstairs and sees Emma for a quick second and says ‘I don’t know how I’m going to do this.’ I was happy with a lot of the stuff that happened last year as a team.”

And it’s that team mentality at GH that has him noticing some glaring omissions on the ballots this year. “I’m shocked that Finola Hughes (Anna) wasn’t nominated,” Thompson declares, “because I know what we went through as a team and I know what she went through was real. As an actor, that’s what you want.”

Kelly Sullivan (Kate/Connie), too,” he continues. “She had a fantastic year. I know how hard she worked. But I also know the way these things go. I’m happy to be on this side of it, but it’s a crap shoot. I’m proud of the year I had. Whatever happens from here on out as of this morning, I’m happy and it’s a cherry on a good year.”
