The internet was swirling with buzz that Kirsten Storms was leaving GENERAL HOSPITAL, but the actress popped onto Twitter to set the record straight! “To address the internet rumors, no I’m not leaving GH,” she posted. “I had to take two sick days due to the flu and that is all.” During those two episodes, the role of Maxie Jones will once again be played by Molly Burnett (ex-Melaine, DAYS OF OUR LIVES).
With Maxie having just given birth to her baby boy and discovering that Peter is really Anna and Faison’s son, Henrik, there’s still a lot of story to tell, so it would make absolutely no sense for Storms to leave the soap right now. In fact, the actress shared some even better news! “I also recently re-signed with the show and I’m very happy to be continuing with Maxie’s journey. Thanks, Frank Valentini [GH’s executive producer], for being so great while I was sick.”

Fans were understandably nervous as Storms has taken a few breaks from GH over the years. In 2011, she left because she was suffering from endometriosis, and the role was recast with Jen Lilley (ex-Theresa, DAYS). In 2014, she took a few months off to give birth to Harper, her daughter with ex-husband Brandon Barash (ex-Johnny, GH). Then, in May of 2016, Storms was temporarily replaced with Burnett when she left to deal with some skin issues. Her most recent leave of absence was in the spring of 2017 when she dealt with some personal issues she later revealed was due to her suffering from severe depression.
With so much great story coming up for Maxie, we're glad that not only has Storms only had to take a couple days off due to illness, but that she's signed a new contract and will be remaining in Port Charles for some time to come!
