Get ready to see a side of Lindsay Hartley you’ve never seen before — four of them, to be exact! She’s starring in the new movie, My Mother’s Split Personalities, premiering Saturday, Jan. 12, at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime! The daytime alum has appeared as Theresa on PASSIONS, Arianna on DAYS OF OUR LIVES, and Cara on ALL MY CHILDREN, but at no point in her soap career did she ever get to play multiple personalities! “And I never got to play twins, either,” Hartley admitted to Soaps In Depth. “But I did do a Lifetime movie last August and I did get to play twins. That was super fun. So that was kind of the next step and then this one is the step after that!”
In the film, Hartley plays Gail Price, a woman who suffers from dissociative identity disorder and is under the control of her new boyfriend, Warren, who hopes to get his hands on the money Gail inherited from her late husband. When Gail’s daughter, Julie, returns home, she is shocked to learn of her mother’s condition, and struggles to save her from Warren and get her the help she needs. “This criminal boyfriend knows about Gail’s mental issues and that’s their angle to get the inheritance,” Hartley previews. “They’ve been casing her and stuff. And when Gail is threatened, that’s when the alpha personality comes out to protect the other ones.
“The first one, the little girl, comes out when Julie leaves,” the actress explains. “And then Madeline, the sexy, fun, romantic chick comes out when she meets Warren. And then the third one comes out when Gail is in danger. That’s Sadie, the dominant personality. The one that is literally the most dangerous. She will kill to protect the other personalities.”
Soap fans are used to multiple personality storylines, and Hartley is thrilled she’s finally getting to tackle that particular acting challenge. “I was super pumped when [executive producer] Pierre David asked me to join in on this projet because it’s really cool to be able to throw so many people into a role, right? I hope you get sucked into Gail’s trouble, because she’s really messed up. She’s a really screwed up character.”
