Monaco’s Big Debut!

GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Kelly Monaco (Sam) hit the dance floor last night as part of the new cast of DANCING WITH THE STARS: ALL-STARS, performing a Cha Cha with partner Val Chmerkovskiy. And afterward, Soaps In Depth caught up with the actress to see how she thought she did.

“It feels great,” she says of returning to the show where she was the reigning champion of the very first season. “It feels great to be prepared and get out on the dance floor and disappear into the music and sail away.”

Starting DANCING while taping her last GH episodes with Steve Burton (Jason) certainly caused some heightened emotions. “I had Val come up to work a few times just to get an idea of what it is that I do every day,” Monaco says. “I have been crying for like, two weeks straight now. I know this is his last week. I’m doing eight shows in three days and I’m going to have to be very emotional about it. I don’t want to talk about it. I don’t want to say good-bye. Hopefully he’ll just go on vacation for a little bit and he’ll come back to us in a couple of months.”

Monaco earned a 21.5 (7,7,7.5) for the dance, although she insists that until the results are announced, she’s not going to feel completely confident. “Once you feel safe, then you’re in some serious trouble,” she explains. “I have a really great night on the dance floor. If it’s our time, then it’s our time. We’re going out with a bang.”

It helped that she had GH co-stars like Anthony Geary (Luke), Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), Kirsten Storms (Maxie), Lindsey Morgan (Kristina), Haley Alexis Pullos (Molly), Lisa LoCicero (Olivia), Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) and executive producer Frank Valentini in the audience to cheer her on. “I am overworked and under-slept,” Monaco reports. “Imagine what I could do if I had the proper amount of time to put into this?”

Don’t forget to tune into the live DANCING WITH THE STARS: ALL-STARS results show tonight at 8:00 pm EST to find out how Monaco fared, and whether or not she’ll be back next week to compete again!
