The 2018 GENERAL HOSPITAL Nurses Ball is coming up the week of May 16, and this year the gala event will be hosted by THE BACHELOR star Nick Viall! As reported by TV Insider, he will be interviewing the residents of Port Charles as they walk down the red carpet, and as fans recall from previous balls, that’s where all the drama starts!
Viall first appeared as a contestant on THE BACHELORETTE in 2014, where he made it to the final two only to come in runner up when Andi Dorfman chose Josh Murray instead. He then joined the cast of the 2015 season in the fourth week, only once again come in second after Kaitlyn Bristowe gave her final rose to Shawn Booth. After an appearance on BACHELOR IN PARADISE, Viall was selected to be the Bachelor for the 21st season of the ABC reality series in 2016. In the end, he proposed to Vanessa Grimaldi, though they broke up the following August. He has also appeared on the 24th season of DANCING WITH THE STARS, but he and partner Peta Murgatroyd were the sixth couple eliminated.
The GH Nurses Ball began back in 1994, and was founded by Lucy Coe as a fundraiser for HIV and AIDS awareness and research. Every spring, hospital employees and Port Charles residents come together for a gala dinner where some of them take the stage to perform musical numbers. The event became more personal to many in town when Robin Scorpio was diagnosed with HIV in 1996.
Although the Nurses Ball tradition ended in 2001 due to lack of funding, Lucy was able to bring it back again in 2013 just in time for the soap’s 50th anniversary and it has continued annually ever since. And of course, once again, this year Lucy will be the mistress of ceremonies. But as to which characters will be taking the stage to perform, you’ll just have to tune in when the Nurses Ball kicks off on Monday, May 16 with a special red carpet hosted by Viall. Maybe the former BACHELOR will make a move on one of Port Charles’ bachelorettes?
