The Truth About Little Jake’s Death!

Even as fans of GENERAL HOSPITAL have been reeling from the news that Elizabeth’s son, Jake, is alive, newer viewers have been left scratching their heads. Need the 411 on what the fuss is all about? Read on!

Elizabeth was in one of those places in her life where nothing was going right. She and Nikolas had been seeing each other, and the idea of exploring where that would go appealed to her. However, her wishy-washy ways caught up with her, and Nikolas decided that enough was enough. Ignoring his romantic feelings for Liz, Nik instead chose to pursue Brook Lynn.

With Nikolas out of the picture, Liz turned her attention to Lucky. But he, too, had moved on, with Siobhan. Liz was left facing the prospect of being alone… at least until she saw an opportunity to make her own happiness. After learning that Lucky was planning to marry Siobhan, Liz ordered up a paternity test which she hoped would prove that Lucky — and not Nikolas — was the father of her son, Aiden. She assumed that finding out the boy was his would bring Lucky running back to her.

The evening Liz received the paternity test results, it seemed as if everyone who was anyone in Port Charles was on the same road. Brenda and Sonny were leaving for their honeymoon; a buzzed Luke was rushing to Lucky and Siobhan’s wedding; Carly was desperate to get an ailing Josslyn at the hospital; Sam briefly lost control of her car when she was hit with the after-effects of a concussion; and Lisa was in hot pursuit of Robin, who had found incriminating evidence against her.

Back at the Webber house, Liz opened the envelope to process the test results and what they would mean to her future. What she didn’t realize was that the front door to the house was open and Jake was nowhere in sight. As she ran to the porch, she called out to him. But it was too late. He had run into the street and was hit by a passing car.

At the hospital, Liz and Lucky found it impossible to say farewell to Jake, and postponed turning off the machines. Liz angrily rejected Jason’s request that they donate Jake’s kidney to save Josslyn’s life, but by end of day, the grieving mother had changed her mind. After talking with Lucky, Liz realized that saving a child’s life was what was most important. As the shock of Jake’s death set in, the news got even worse for Lucky. A police investigation showed that Luke had been the person responsible for running the boy down. Lucky confronted his father, asking if he was drunk that night. Luke insisted that although he’d had a little something to drink that night, he was in control, like always. Luke was in severe denial of the part alcohol played in the boy’s death. Because there was no proof that Luke was impaired, no charges were filed.
