It's not very common in the daytime industry, but occasionally an actor will appear on two separate soaps, such as Wally Kurth and his roles as GENERAL HOSPITAL's Ned Ashton Quartermaine and DAYS OF OUR LIVES' Justin Kiriakis. Although you're going to be seeing a bit more of him in Salem than in Port Charles in the near future.
"I think this is common knowledge, but I'm working on DAYS mostly because I'm under contract over there," Kurth explained during an interview with Daytime After Dark. "Now we're almost eight months ahead, so you won't really see me full force… I start a major story in like, the middle of November. There's a big twist on the show and it's very interesting. So that'll be good. For people who like Justin, you'll be seeing a lot of me in a couple of months."
Kurth joined the cast of DAYS back in 1987 and when he left in 1991, he moved to GH to play a recast Ned Ashton in 1993. However, after dropping to recurring status with the ABC sudser, the actor went back to DAYS in 2009. And since 2012, he has juggled both soaps at the same time.
"The wonderful thing is that DAYS and GH coordinated and worked together and said that I can still go do GH," Kurth confided. "DAYS gets first choice if I have to work. But I can still do GH and Frank is allowing me to go do DAYS and also knows he can use me if he needs me to come on GH. So I'm the luckiest actor in town that I get to do both shows. So I have a feeling that I'll be back on GH in a couple of months. Which will be great."
It may be an unusual arrangement, but it's one that is working out not only for Kurth but for his fans who can enjoy watching the talented actor playing two separate roles at the same time! For more on your favorite daytime stars, keep reading Soaps In Depth magazine.
